Dr. Ellis's Spectrum Training System
This book takes you by the hand and describes all of the aspects of Dr. Ellis's own physical training program that works for beginners or advanced trainees. This is a ground-breaking book. After he teaches you what you must do, he tells you how to do it.
The Legend:
4 sets of 12 reps, 10 sets of 4 reps, split routines, alternate days of training, protein versus steroids, free weights versus machines...all are dazzling issues confronting today's youth in the strive to perfection. Our society of physical fitness is absolutely, positively overloaded with TOO MUCH information on strength training. Who are the experts? Who should kids (and adults) listen to?
Well, Dr. Gregory Ellis doesn't have all he answers but he has more than most. At a svelte, muscular 58 years of age, Dr. G stills looks like he could suit up for the San Diego Chargers (with whom he had a tryout after his college career at Pittsburgh). Most strength coaches in the college ranks and in the high schools, have their own opinions about how young athletes should strength train and, "dag nab it" (as Bobby Bowden, head football coach at Florida State would say) there are going to stick with it even if it kills you.
Well, what makes Dr. G's book on strength training any better? To begin with, he is not only a Ph. D. in physiology from a very prestigious medical school, Dr. Ellis has spent nearly 40 years research biochemistry and what makes the human body tick. His philosophy is quite simple...you can't drive the vehicle without taking care of the gas and oil requirements. In other words, nutrition and training are two sides of the same coin.
You cannot expect major growth in lean muscle tissue and strength without giving each side of the equation is just do.
Academics are one thing but practical experience is quite another. Along life's journey, Dr. G has trained at Gold's Gym in Venice, CA alongside the icon "Arnold." He set the Pennsylvania state high school shot put record that stood for years after mastering strength training when there were only a few barbells and plates laying around haphazard gyms. He parlayed his football skills to a full scholarship at the University of Pittsburgh. He owned and operated one of the first Nautilus Gyms in America in the early 1980's. Oh, yes, he also has trained dozens of star athletes at the professional, collegiate, and high school levels. He has also authored 6 books on subjects ranging from weight loss to autism and is a published author of medical reseach papers on energy, endurance, and metabolism.
Why should we take Dr. G's advice? Take a look at the cover of his Spectrum Training book and you make the choice. If you want to settle for less, go to your local bookstore or magazine rack for advice from yet another steroid driven freak. If you want maximum results for the time your athlete or your loved ones spent in the weight room, give Dr. G's a shot!
